At the plenary administrative session, the European Court decided to start work on a thematic basisBoard of Immigration Cases.
This Committee will decide on the cases of all member states signatories to the Convention, which are related to immigration issues and which fall under the well-established practice of the Court (broader WECL) (cases relating to expulsion, extradition and related matters).
This is the first such thematic Committee that was established in the European Court.
The goal of the Immigration Board is to combine expertise and efficiency, as well as to ensure further consistency of case processing within this wider well-established practice (broader WECL).
The procedure and activities of this Committee are similar to those applied in existing Committees that deal with and consider cases based on well-established judicial practice.
Subjects that do not fall into the broader category of well-established practice(broader WECL)will continue to be considered in Chambers of 7 judges.
